The Veteran Movers series is about veterans who come back to civilian life and work at a moving company while adjusting to working and loving in the non-military world. The characters are wacky and fun, intense and brooding. And they all have attitudes that don’t go away simply because they fall in love. What they don’t have are playlists. Why? Because I have to have absolute quiet when writing my books. I don’t listen to music, even instrumental music, because it’s distracting. My brain sees the page, my fingers type, and I do a verbal dance to the tune my characters demand. So when I saw the feature topic for this post (My Writing Playlist for the Veteran Movers series), I adapted…Kind of. I decided to include my reading “playlist” during the time I’ve been writing my Veteran Movers series. These are the books that have stood out to me for the past months while writing my series. And caution, many of these are not romances. They have character arcs and plotlines I love, though.
Here are a few that make the grade…

We're so excited about the release of Kait Ballenger's Cowboy in Wolf's Clothing, second in the dark and dangerous Seven Range Shifters series! Wolf shifter Colt Cavanaugh was born a cowboy and bred a warrior, but the hardened Grey Wolf High Commander has a secret that could destroy everything. She-wolf Belle Beaumont is a wanted woman and an enemy of the pack Colt has spent his life protecting. When their rivalry turns to passion, they know it can only be for a night. But when Belle turns up with Colt’s enemies on her tail and secrets of her own, Colt will fight to the death for the healing she brings his battle-worn heart. And for this cowboy wolf, all’s fair in love and war… Enjoy this excerpt! The writing process is different for every author. So we asked Maxym M. Martineau to describe the writing process for her debut novel, Kingdom of Exile. Take it away, Maxym!
I’m always so in awe of the authors who can plot. I’m talking about the ones who create storyboards, creatively move sticky notes around that are color-coded and beautiful, write scene-by-scene outlines before they even begin drafting… That level of plotting is so incredible to me, and totally not the way my writing process works. It just goes to show that there are different approaches to writing a story, and mine is just one of many. So if you’re curious how Kingdom of Exiles came to life, then keep reading (and expect no sticky notes, save the ones I slapped on my desk with upcoming due dates). With the upcoming release of her newest happy-ever-after, Cowboy In Wolf's Clothing, we asked Kait Ballenger to share her favorite HEA!
Cowboy romance author Kim Redford joins us to tell us about her favorite happily ever after--Dreaming of a White Wolf Christmas by Terry Spear!
So far, 2019 is shaping up to be a great year for new Romance titles. One of my resolutions for the year is to make more time for reading. A good thing since there are so many books coming out that I’m just dying to get my hands on.
Here is a list of ten books (plus a bonus novella) that are destined for my reading stack. Ever wonder how werewolves handle leash laws? Or how angels deal with the FAA? What about vampires? How do they manage their estate planning?
For starters, if a person dies without a will, their family inherits their assets: the car, the house, the accounts. They all go to the spouse and/or children according to with state law. But what if the person who died isn’t dead—because they’re undead? |
