Marie Harte's Reading Playlist for the Veteran Movers Series

The Veteran Movers series is about veterans who come back to civilian life and work at a moving company while adjusting to working and loving in the non-military world. The characters are wacky and fun, intense and brooding. And they all have attitudes that don’t go away simply because they fall in love.

What they don’t have are playlists. Why? Because I have to have absolute quiet when writing my books. I don’t listen to music, even instrumental music, because it’s distracting. My brain sees the page, my fingers type, and I do a verbal dance to the tune my characters demand.

So when I saw the feature topic for this post (My Writing Playlist for the Veteran Movers series), I adapted…Kind of.

I decided to include my reading “playlist” during the time I’ve been writing my Veteran Movers series. These are the books that have stood out to me for the past months while writing my series. And caution, many of these are not romances. They have character arcs and plotlines I love, though.

Here are a few that make the grade…
  1. Patricia Briggs’ Storm Cursed. Part of her Mercy Thompson urban fantasy series, Storm Cursed is an outstanding addition to the series. Watching the main character, Mercy, continue to grow as she accepts helps from her friends and the pack (she’s a coyote in a werewolf pack) is awesome. Mercy’s husband is the werewolf alpha, but he’s not always around. So it’s usually up to Mercy to handle villains and save the day by doing what she does best, sticking up for those she loves and never backing down. If you haven’t read this series, you are truly missing out. The romance between Mercy and her mate builds through the books, and it’s soooo well done. I reread these books all the time. (Book one is Moon Called.)
  2. The same can be said for Ilona Andrews. I’m a huge fan of their (writing team) Kate Daniels urban fantasy series, which ended a few months ago. *sob* Magic Triumphs marked the end of that outstanding series. Kate is strong and funny, and her interactions with her mate—the Beast Lord—make for some hilarious scenes. Like the previous series mentioned, her relationship with her mate develops over time through the books. Watching Kate grow, seeing her come to believe in both herself and her made-family, is always fun. And the action is killer good. (Book one is Magic Bites.)
  3. On the heels of that series, Hidden Legacies, also by Kate Daniels, is a must. I got to read Sapphire Flames, which releases this month. The characters are snarky, the action is fast and fun, and the romance is both funny and warm. But I’m dying to read the next book! (Start out with Burn for Me if you haven’t read these yet.)
  4. And though I feel a little silly, I do reread my older stuff when I run out of new material. To reconnect with older characters, I reread my Body Shop Bad Boys series. And they’re sexy and fun, and in some spots brought a few tears. For sexy mechanics who get their hearts turned upside down by some strong leading ladies, I recommend starting with Test Drive. And then, because I got fixated on another of my characters who always makes me laugh (hello, Elliot), I reread All I Want for Halloween. And I was surprised at how much more I like it now than when I wrote it. I love a heroine who isn’t afraid to punch a jerk in the face. Literally.

Sorry I couldn’t recommend any songs. But even now as I write this blog post, there is nothing but silence…and the heavy breathing of my dog as she sleeps beside me.

Happy reading!
Marie

I did not about swale scale before reading this blog but it has for sure brought more carefulness in me about protecting lawns and stuff. Many individuals have appreciated this blog as it gives a lot of links and details about some. It is highly recommended to give it a go.
